Each candle's quote volume is distributed uniformly across fixed-origin logarithmic bins touched by its high-low range because the source does not reveal execution at each price. Value area expands contiguously from POC to at least 70%. POC, VAL and VAH are historical activity references, not support, resistance or future-price predictions.

Why is this a candle-binned volume profile proxy?
A true trade-by-price profile adds every executed trade to its exact price. Historical public K-lines provide only open, high, low, close and total quote volume for each candle, so the internal price distribution is unknown.
CoinNudge uses one disclosed allocation rule rather than pretending that all volume traded at the close. The downloadable nodes and calculation version make the approximation reproducible.

What are point of control and value area?
Point of control is the single price bin receiving the most allocated quote volume. Value area begins at POC and expands continuously toward the higher-volume adjacent bin until it covers at least 70%; VAL and VAH are the resulting lower and upper edges.
This avoids selecting disconnected top-volume bins and then hiding low-volume gaps inside a wide envelope. Neither POC nor value area says whether buyers or sellers dominated.

Why use five-minute candles for 30 days and hourly candles for 90 days?
Finer five-minute ranges reduce allocation width for the recent profile, while the hourly series bounds compute and storage for the longer context. Both use the same price-bin width and allocation rule, but their source granularity differs and is disclosed.
If 30-day and 90-day nodes align, activity has concentrated near a similar area across both horizons. If they differ, the recent market may have migrated to a new price region.

How should Bitcoin volume-profile levels be used?
Use them to identify where a current alert is occurring relative to estimated historical activity. A breakout above both value areas has different context from a move inside a dense node, but continuation still depends on current participation.
Check the order book, CVD, volatility and option-implied move. A historical volume node can be crossed quickly when present liquidity and information differ from the sample.
Can I compare the 30-day and 90-day point of control as if both used identical trade-level data?
No. The published profiles use different candle intervals and a candle-binning approximation. Differences can arise from time coverage, binning and input granularity as well as genuine changes in activity.
The profile is a candle-based proxy. It cannot prove exact traded volume at every price or guarantee support and resistance.
- Save the window, candle interval, bin definition and completeness measure.
- Compare broad zones and the current price relationship before emphasizing a tiny level difference.
- For a trade-level profile study, first establish whether the necessary historical executions are available.

Method and data boundary
Each profile uses a fixed $1 logarithmic origin whose successive upper edges equal the lower edge × 1.0025. The grid therefore does not move when current BTC price changes. Every completed candle's quote volume is allocated uniformly across bins touched by its high-low range. Point of control is the largest bin. The 70% value area starts at POC and expands contiguously one adjacent bin at a time toward the higher-volume side until actual covered share reaches at least 70%.
This is not tick-level trade-by-price data. Uniform candle-range allocation can place volume at prices where fewer trades occurred. The fixed logarithmic grid, edge-membership rule, POC, VAL, VAH and actual covered share are public, but all remain historical activity proxies—not guaranteed support, resistance, liquidity or future turning points.
