Current source-backed snapshot

This page does not rank cryptocurrencies. Alternative.me publishes one Bitcoin-led daily sentiment index from 0 to 100, so CoinNudge shows the latest value and seven retained readings in date order, then separately compares that sentiment with current BTC performance, liquid Binance market breadth and sector participation. The combined view answers whether today's market behavior broadly agrees with the mood label; it does not turn greed into an automatic sell signal, fear into an automatic buy signal or assign a mood score to every coin.

Alternative.me publishes a Bitcoin-led sentiment index, not a per-coin mood score. Binance breadth is separate current context; combining them does not create a price forecast or contrarian trade instruction.

How to read this page

  • The page has one Bitcoin-led sentiment series; it does not rank coins by fear or greed.
  • The seven readings are ordered newest first and daily point change is kept separate from price return.
  • Current Binance breadth tests whether the mood label agrees with broad traded-market participation.
  • Extreme fear or greed describes sentiment conditions and is not an automatic reversal signal.

What can this page tell you quickly?

Best for
Checking today's Bitcoin sentiment value and whether current liquid-market participation supports or contradicts it.
Strongest evidence
A dated seven-reading history is placed beside fresh BTC, breadth and sector context without merging their timestamps.
Main limitation
The index methodology is provider-defined and Bitcoin-led; the market context is Binance USDT Spot rather than every exchange.
Update rhythm
CoinNudge checks the daily index about hourly, refreshes Binance context continuously and the browser requests a combined snapshot about every five minutes.

What does the Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index measure today?

The index compresses a set of Bitcoin-market sentiment inputs into a value between 0 and 100 and supplies a provider classification such as Fear, Neutral or Greed. CoinNudge displays the provider's current number and wording rather than silently substituting its own category thresholds. The date belongs to the index observation, while the fetched time shows when CoinNudge last verified it.

A value is not a probability. A reading of 70 does not mean Bitcoin has a 70% chance of rising, that 70% of traders are bullish or that every cryptocurrency is greedy. It is a sentiment index designed to summarize conditions, and its proper use begins by preserving that boundary.

Displayed fieldQuestion answeredWhat it does not mean

ClassificationHow does the provider label that reading?Mood of every coin
Daily point changeHow far did the index move from the prior reading?Bitcoin percentage return
Seven-reading rangeHow stable or variable was the retained series?A complete market cycle

Why compare Fear and Greed with crypto market breadth?

The sentiment index and breadth answer different questions. Sentiment describes a Bitcoin-led mood reading; breadth counts how many liquid Binance USDT markets are rising or falling and calculates their median rolling 24-hour return. When both are strong, the current mood has wider market participation. When they disagree, that conflict is more informative than forcing a bullish or bearish label.

For example, a greedy reading alongside positive BTC but a negative median market can indicate narrow headline strength. Fear alongside improving breadth can show resilience outside the sentiment label. Neither pattern predicts what happens next, but each helps a user decide whether a coin-specific alert agrees with its wider setting.

  • Broad agreement: sentiment direction, median market return and advancing share point the same way.
  • Narrow agreement: BTC supports the mood but most eligible markets do not.
  • Conflict: sentiment and current breadth point in different directions.
  • Unavailable: a stale or missing source prevents a current comparison.

How should the seven-reading sentiment history be interpreted?

The newest reading appears first. CoinNudge calculates the difference from the immediately previous retained reading and from the oldest of the seven available readings. These are index-point changes, not percentages. Moving from 40 to 60 is plus 20 points, not a 20% Bitcoin gain and not proof that capital entered the market.

Seven daily observations are enough to show whether the current label emerged suddenly or persisted, but they are not a long-term backtest. Weekends are included when supplied by the provider because crypto trades continuously. Missing dates are not interpolated and repeated observations are deduplicated by timestamp.

One-day jumpMood changed quickly from the prior valueThe underlying cause is identified

Should extreme fear be bought and extreme greed be sold?

Not automatically. Contrarian sayings are retrospective heuristics, not complete execution rules. Fear can deepen during a sustained decline, and greed can persist while a trend remains strong. Fees, time horizon, position size, liquidity and new information determine whether any trade would have been practical.

CoinNudge therefore uses sentiment as context and applies a long cooldown to sentiment alerts. A user should check price structure, volume, market breadth, sector participation and derivatives positioning before treating an extreme reading as relevant. The product does not execute trades or promise that an opposite-position strategy is profitable.

How can sentiment improve a crypto alert without creating noise?

Sentiment is most useful when it changes the interpretation of another observable event. A bullish technical crossover during broad greed and strong participation differs from the same crossover during fearful, declining breadth. A volume burst against the prevailing mood may deserve investigation precisely because the evidence conflicts.

The daily index should not trigger repeated messages every few minutes. CoinNudge retains the source time, filters stale observations and uses it as a market-context module. Telegram delivery remains tied to qualifying events and the user's plan and coin coverage, while this public page provides the broader dated evidence.

  • Use sentiment to describe environment, not to replace a coin-specific trigger.
  • Keep index points separate from percentage price moves.
  • Check whether breadth and sectors confirm or contradict the mood.
  • Treat conflicting evidence as a reason to investigate, not a reason to manufacture certainty.

Can I join the daily Fear and Greed reading to every intraday market event?

Only after respecting when that reading became available. Assigning a later daily value to earlier intraday events introduces information that was not yet known.

The Bitcoin-led index is one provider's sentiment measure. It is not a coin-level fear score or an independent confirmation for every event.

  • Keep Alternative.me's observation date and your retrieval or availability time.
  • Use the latest genuinely available value at each event, with its age.
  • Keep the daily sentiment reading separate from the faster Binance breadth observations used as context.

Method and data boundary

CoinNudge checks Alternative.me hourly and retains the latest seven daily Fear and Greed readings. It calculates point changes from the prior and oldest retained reading, then joins the current index with Binance USDT spot breadth above the $1 million 24-hour quote-volume floor, BTC's rolling 24-hour move and CoinNudge's eligible sector baskets. The two sources keep separate timestamps and meanings.

Alternative.me's index is Bitcoin-led and its proprietary inputs are not a per-coin sentiment survey. Binance breadth is one venue's rolling market context. Agreement or disagreement between them is descriptive evidence, not a forecast or contrarian trading rule.

Frequently asked questions

What is today's Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index?

The live value and provider classification appear at the top of this page with their observation and verification times; CoinNudge does not hard-code a daily number into the article.

Does the index measure every cryptocurrency?

No. Alternative.me describes it as a Bitcoin and major-crypto sentiment index; CoinNudge treats it as Bitcoin-led context, not a score for each coin.

Is extreme fear a buy signal?

No. Fear can persist or deepen. CoinNudge presents it as context that requires price, breadth, volume and risk verification.

Is extreme greed a sell signal?

No. Greed can persist during a strong trend and does not identify the timing of a reversal.

What does a plus five daily change mean?

The sentiment index increased five points from the prior retained reading. It is not a five percent Bitcoin return.

Why include Binance breadth?

Breadth shows whether current liquid spot-market participation broadly agrees with or contradicts the Bitcoin-led sentiment label while keeping the two data sources separate.
