Crypto long-short ratios today
Current answer: As of , using OKX account ratios and Gate.io account, top-position and taker ratios: SUI has the most extreme comparable account-ratio context at 3.94 across 1 named venues. Account, top-position and taker definitions remain separate.

This page keeps unlike positioning measures separate. OKX account long-short ratio, Gate.io account ratio, Gate.io top-position size ratio and Gate.io taker buy/sell ratio describe different populations and cannot honestly be averaged into one market-wide bullish percentage. CoinNudge shows each venue and metric beside the latest five-minute observation for 12 liquid crypto markets. A ratio above one does not prove that more capital is long or that price will rise.

Account, top-position and taker ratios measure different populations and are never averaged into one synthetic market-wide direction. Ratios above one describe more long accounts or buy taker volume under that venue's definition, not greater capital or certain price direction.
How to read this page
- Read the venue and metric label before the value.
- A 2.0 account ratio means two long accounts per short account—not twice the long capital.
- Top-position size and taker flow answer different questions.
- Extreme crowding can persist and is not automatically contrarian.
What can this page tell you quickly?
- Best for
- Seeing whether named venues report one-sided participation.
- Coverage
- Twelve liquid markets with OKX and/or Gate.io observations.
- Ranking
- Largest comparable account-ratio distance from 1.0.
- Do not infer
- The ratios do not reveal global exposure or certain direction.
What do the different long-short ratios measure?
An account ratio counts accounts classified long and short; it does not weight a large account more than a small one. A top-position ratio narrows the sample and weights size, while a taker ratio compares aggressive buy and sell activity during a bucket.
The definitions can disagree without being wrong. Many small accounts can be long while fewer top positions hold greater short size.
| Metric | Population | Safe interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Account ratio | Venue accounts | Relative count of long and short accounts |
| Top-position size | Venue-defined top positions | Relative size in that subgroup |
| Taker buy/sell | Aggressive trades | Recent execution pressure, not positions |
Why not publish one combined long-short score?
Averaging values with different denominators creates precision without meaning. An OKX account ratio of 1.4 and Gate.io taker ratio of 0.7 do not cancel to neutral because they measure different actors and states.
CoinNudge preserves venue disagreement as evidence rather than silently resolving it.
How should extreme positioning be interpreted?
First check whether both venues report, then whether the extreme appears in accounts, top size or taker activity. Add price and OI as separate context.
Crowding does not specify reversal timing. Strong trends can keep ratios extreme, and aggregate data does not expose leverage or entry prices.
- Confirm the population.
- Check whether the ratio changed.
- Compare OI and price separately.
- Do not infer liquidation prices.
What makes a long-short ratio alert useful?
A useful message names the venue, population, current ratio, recent change and concurrent OI or price context. A message saying only '90% long' hides construction and invites a global inference.
Telegram delivery can focus on new extremes rather than repeating a static value every five minutes.
Why can account positioning and taker flow point in opposite directions?
An account ratio counts a defined population's positioning, while a taker measure describes executed activity in a window. They cover different units and can diverge without either being mathematically wrong.
A ratio does not disclose all traders' exposures. Today's cross-venue view is not a unified historical positions dataset.
- Label each series with venue, account or position population and sampling interval.
- Compare like-for-like series through time rather than averaging unlike ratios.
- Read the ratio alongside price and OI from an aligned window before describing crowding.
What is measured, and what is not?
| Measured claim | Evidence on this page | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| A named venue reports a current ratio. | Official label and timestamp. | It does not cover all exchanges. |
| An account ratio is far from 1.0. | Comparable ratio distance. | Extreme is not reversal. |
| Venue metrics disagree. | Separate preserved definitions. | Disagreement is not a data error. |
Take the next step with this evidence.

Method and data boundary
CoinNudge selects twelve high-liquidity native crypto markets, requests OKX's five-minute contract account ratio and Gate.io's five-minute contract statistics, and retains every value under its official metric name. Comparable venue account ratios use aggregate_ratio = exp(mean(ln(venue_ratio))) with equal venue weight. Ranking score is abs(ln(aggregate_ratio)), so 0.5 and 2.0 are equally far from neutral 1.0. Top-position and taker ratios remain separate and never enter the aggregate.
The geometric aggregate includes only available account-ratio observations and is not weighted by OI or volume. The named venues expose different populations and contract coverage. Account count is not position size, top-position size excludes the wider population, and taker flow is activity rather than standing exposure.

Frequently asked questions
What does above 1 mean?
More longs than shorts under that specific metric and venue definition.
Does 2.0 mean twice the money is long?
Not for account ratios; they count accounts.
Why can metrics disagree?
They measure standing account classification, top size or recent trades.
Are these global ratios?
No. They cover named OKX and Gate.io datasets.
Why only twelve coins?
The page prioritizes liquid markets and controls missing-contract noise.
Is crowded-long a sell signal?
No. Crowding can persist and does not show leverage or future direction.
