Is Bitcoin moving on spot buying or leverage?

Current answer: As of , using CoinNudge composite: Binance, Coinbase, Hyperliquid, OKX and MEXC: BTC currently looks insufficient current coverage: 1/2 available spot checks and 1/1 available leverage checks are positive. Missing components are shown as unavailable and excluded from both numerators and denominators; they are never treated as negative.

A price move funded by executed spot demand has a different risk profile from one accompanied mainly by expanding perpetual exposure and expensive funding. This page keeps those evidence layers separate. Binance and Coinbase describe executed spot activity; aligned open interest, funding and basis describe derivatives positioning; observed OKX liquidations show forced-close pressure. The classification is transparent and component-based, so users can inspect disagreement instead of trusting a hidden ‘smart money’ score.

How to read this page

  • Is the current BTC move spot-confirmed, leverage-led or too mixed to classify?
  • These venue-specific proxies do not observe all spot demand, leverage or wallet flows and cannot prove who caused a price move.
  • Inspect the table before relying on the summary.
  • JSON and CSV preserve the published evidence.

What counts as spot confirmation?

Binance taker CVD uses quote volume and taker-buy quote volume from completed candles. Coinbase flow classifies executed BTC-USD trades by aggressor side. Positive readings on both venues provide stronger spot evidence than either one alone.

They remain venue-specific. USDT and USD markets can differ, and aggressive-flow imbalance is not the same as net exchange deposits or institutional ownership.

What makes a move leverage-led?

Open interest expansion says outstanding contracts grew. Positive funding and a perpetual premium can show long-side demand or crowding, but venue intervals and contract conventions must be normalized before comparison.

Price and OI can rise together without proving the next direction. A leverage-led label describes the current composition and highlights liquidation sensitivity; it is not a short signal.

How should I read conflicting components?

Spot can buy while OI falls because leveraged shorts close, or price can rise with weak spot flow while OI expands. These mixed states are common and often more useful than a forced bullish or bearish label.

Check the observation timestamps before comparing. CoinNudge aligns source times and leaves unavailable components visible instead of carrying forward an old value as current.

How can I verify and cite this result?

Download the page JSON for the complete snapshot and CSV for tabular evidence. Record the API dataset key `bitcoin-spot-vs-leverage`, the returned calculation_version, observation interval and named source alongside any quoted number. The visible table rounds values for readability; the downloads retain the published precision.

The stable URL remains unchanged when the data refreshes. A new calculation time does not prove every input changed, so compare source-observed timestamps and the stated current 15-minute and 1-hour btc evidence. Missing rows remain missing rather than becoming zero or a favorable estimate.

The answer can be independently inspected.Score two available spot checks—Binance one-hour taker CVD and Coinbase 15-minute net aggressive flow—and up to three available leverage checks—one-hour OI change, the midpoint of the normalized venue funding range and aligned perpetual basis sign. Publish every raw component and rule. Missing inputs remain unavailable and are excluded from numerator and denominator; classification becomes insufficient when fewer than two leverage components or either spot component are available. Liquidations remain context-only.Coverage and missingness constrain every conclusion.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bitcoin rising because of spot buying?

The page compares two spot checks with three leverage checks and publishes the current evidence class.

Does positive funding mean price will fall?

No. It describes a payment direction and crowding cost, not a timing signal.

Is open interest bullish?

Not by itself. It measures outstanding exposure, not the identity or future success of either side.

Is Coinbase premium a literal fund flow?

No. CoinNudge labels the executed-flow and cross-market price proxy boundaries.

Why use several exchanges?

Venue agreement reduces dependence on one market while preserving each source's scope.
